Dear friends,

The month of November has flown by! And today (here to ) it is Sinterklaas! We are also looking forward to Advent, it is really a relief to know that within a few weeks it will be Christmas. Because we’re still having 37 ° C and bright sunshine during the day (and every day)! No storms here in any case ..

Peter got back well from his trip to Belgium and Germany, where he visited Lydia. They had a very nice time together. In Belgium the program was very full, but the presentations at various churches were really good and many contacts where renewed.

Arjo has continued to work hard on the construction and other technical jobs. He left on the 25th of November and will be back for the preparations for the official opening of the hospital. This will take place on January 18th 2014. In that period we also get a visit from Peter’s parents and a delegation from Tearfund Belgium.

On the 17th of November, our dentist from Belgium, along with her husband, landed. The last three weeks they have done a mobile dental clinic in schools where we had a regular mobile clinic first. The children who needed dental care were on the list for follow-up and now we’ve had time to finish the list! They helped about 200 children, which is huge!

Many adults were surprised that they not only came to pull teeth, because that’s about what happens here in most cases, if there is any dental care at all. These kids are so lucky that their cavities (or many cavities in some cases!) got filled, abscesses treated etc.

They also gave all these children a lesson on dental care, with colorful prints and a tooth brushing demonstration. Many of these children do not know how to put toothpaste on the brush for example. In many cases, there is a lack of knowledge about dental hygiene and we now hope that these sessions and the experience in the chair will encourage to brush. We are very grateful for their visit and all the help!

It is the intention to continue these clinics on a regular basis with the material they have brought, because there is a great need for this type of care. In February, we get four nursing students from KH-Leuven again for an internship and we have already asked them to work on a project around dental awareness and prevention.

Now the countdown to the arrival Lydia and then Liesbeth has begun. Lydia is arriving on the 16th of December and Liesbeth on the 23rd of December! Now it is getting very close. Both are doing very well in their schools and look forward to the Christmas season with us.

Many greetings from us,

Peter, Ineke, Liesbeth, Lydia, Jiska and Phebe Van Dingenen
