News from Ouagadougou 23

Posted by on Friday May 30th, 2008

Hello from a wonderfully cool Ouagadougou!

It is now about 26 degrees Celsius outside and has been cloudy ever since this morning’s rain shower.

Unfortunately our children had their sports event at school just today. You could say those plans have literally been “drowned out”. In Belgium of course it wouldn’t have been so unthinkable. Over here on the other hand, it was only the second downpour after 8 months of drought. After last year’s failed crops several areas of the country have now been struck by famine. Hopefully this year will bring more rain.

These last few weeks before our departure to Belgium have been completely packed. Within a little more than a week, on June 18th, we will arrive in Belgium. We are looking forward to it, and are preparing ourselves. What also has to be prepared around here, is the coming of Marc and Débora and their children. We have found them a house at 50 meters from our front door!! The children can drop by at any time, and Marc will be living even closer to the clinic than we are! Amazing how God has provided again at the very last minute! Also, we have already been collecting furniture and several other items for them. Things are really beginning to pick up speed now.

During the weekend of May 1st, Peter took Liesbeth and Lydia along for a night’s worth of camping in the bush. They’ve had a very nice time together. There aren’t so many days off from school, so it was a real treat to be ‘away’ for a short while.

Yesterday Peter took the mobile clinic to Pan Bila 1 to give the people showing up for a food distribution a chance to consult a doctor at the same time. Today they’ve been back and have helped about 19 people in total. It was a great opportunity to explain to people the purpose of the mobile clinic, and tell them what drives us to help them. Now that word has been spreading, surely more people will present themselves next time. Peter was also able to explain the gospel to some 200 people. Jesus wasn’t afraid to tread among the poor and sick and to offer them assistance.

Liesbeth in turn was able to help with the food distribution organized by the Christian youth group. First they had fasted for 30 hours, and with the money raised (nearly 10,000 dollar!) they had bought 200 bags of corn. It was a long morning’s worth of work, but it has been worth it!!

Another scoop: two local doctors have accepted the offer to join the missions team! Great news for the center AGIR as we’ll soon have 3 full-time doctors!

The children have one more week at school, and Liesbeth still has exams during this last week. The last few efforts…

We’re looking forward to seeing many of you again!

During our leave from June 18th – August 14th, we’ll be living in Jette:

Esseghemstraat 147, 1090 Jette

Phone: +32 (0)2 428 58 67

Greeting and God bless you all

Peter, Ineke, Liesbeth, Lydia, Jiska and Phebe Van Dingenen

    Hi Peter and Ineke
I hope you have had a good rest back in Europe and are ready to return to Burkina with renewed strength. I was pleased to read on the website that the medical work is expanding and two local doctors have joined the Centre AGIR. I have very happy memories of the short visit Neil and I made when we were with Keith in Sept last year. thankyou so much for your hospitality we enjoyed staying in the apartment and I was glad to look round the centre. I wish you continued success and God’s blessing on you and your children in the coming months.
best wishes Tony Brown from England
